Cute and Angry

Cute and Angry, originally uploaded by anna potatoes.

I hope some people have seen the Dr. Seuss movie Horton Hears a Who... not that it will stop me from telling this story!

So Ethan here has seen the movie a number of times and I have to say it's a pretty good movie, however, when you show a 2 year old with an imagination this elaborate story about people living on flowers you get: yelling into a dandelion so fiercely that there is actual yellow residue left on his mouth as if he half-ate it ..as seen in this pic.

He really must think they're assholes because none of them have talked back yet. Not only do I enjoy beyond belief when he makes angry expressions, but I never tire of watching as he runs into this large field full of these dandelions which you can see in the pic and "carefully" picks out "the one" just like Horton does. I mean really, you have to see it, but I assure you it's unbelievably adorable.

Also, yay for figuring out how to blog a flickr photo!!

In other "news" (as in it's new, not that it's real news): I now own a Lululemon black scuba hoodie and it IS in fact crazy-awesome. Especially so since I got it for super-cheap and I really need it for bike riding this summer. I've decided I can own ridiculous things as long as I myself don't turn into Miss Lululemon 2008. That chick, and we all know her, is ultra retarded. She wears a monthly salary on her body and still she is not in shape and everyone knows it! Anyways.. while we're at new things I will mention my Chiropractor experience for my back injury is going fantastic! I'm improving and that is neat, especially for something I didn't even believe worked before. I also have my wedding dress right now sitting in my closet looking incredibly hot, and won't be on my Flickr as "news" for a little bit. Sorry!

I added another facial expression pic however, which I like to think is probably the best WTF-face I've ever encountered.

Long Hot Summer

Victoria Long Weekend Search Winner!
Google: DAVID HASSELHOFF ARE YOU HAVING A PARTY THIS WEEKEND

Short answer, yes he had a party. Long answer, it was just with himself and some Pepsi that burst out of the floor. Don't feel bad for him, it's not like he actually invited anyone else.

This weekend we tried to get this biking thing going and discovered a nice new trail by the house.. unfortunately it was way too cold to go out again today so hopefully when it warms up on Wednesday we'll be back out there. Really looking forward to taking advantage of the warm summer days/nights; you know, until future global warming makes our front lawns, shady trees and small animals burst into flames on a "temperamental" July afternoon. Not as nice to bike in, that is, until I perfect my ice suit. It'll be just like those cute neoprene wet suits you put on your beer bottles in the summer with those giant zipper rings and terrible colours, except packed with ice and for your whole body. The only thing missing from my invention is how, when the earth is int he process of melting, we will make that ice. Oh and also another small speed bump of how to give people the will enough to live, let alone enjoy a nice bike ride. I figure I have about 35 years to figure this out.

By the way I watched the documentary The Corporation and now I'm afraid to buy anything. Anyone else know about the thing with Hitler and IBM, because I sure as hell didn't! I think I would have remembered that history class.

It's love

Had to add another post with the new Weezer single the greatest man who ever lived. I will be buying this album with glee. Actual glee. I've been waiting a long time for this. <3

Valuable Information

I wish the rest of this post had anything to do with that awesome graphic but it does not.

Instead of scientifically proving how my milkshake is better than yours, I'll tell you about probably the most guilty secret I have. No, its not Nutella + Pizza Depot + Starbucks donuts. That is a very good guess though! but those aren't technically secrets. I have to give you some back-story first, if you don't want to read it you're welcome to just look at the chart again and skip a paragraph.

When I was 10 my mom took me to the dentist to have my loose tooth pulled. I've had a great history in my life with teeth that just want to hang on, and many string pulling at home and eating apples stories. In fact I don't think there was a single baby tooth that DIDN'T want to hang on, so anyhow, my mom thought it best to go to the dentist for one of the larger back ones. This also began my illustrious persona of "acting super brave really makes everybody happy" and it really did. Never failed to make a great impression. I swear this particular time the dentist used a small chubby screw driver to actually pop my tooth out, and it hurt, and I was mad. My mom said she would buy me a present for being so brave this time, since it's probably the only time I complained (a lot) and if I knew any swear words I would have used them (a lot). She took me to a jewelry store and told me I could pick out whatever I wanted. You have to appreciate the rarity of this occasion since we were not the family who had extra cash to buy jewelry for no reason.. so I picked out this cute gold ring with a green stone in it. My mom said I could have it today, or I could wait a few weeks and have my birthstone in it. I picked today! Later on my mom wore it, bleached the floor all the time with it on and it broke.. never to be fixed and worn by me.

My mom lost or broke my jewelry on a spectacularly consistent basis. Earrings, necklaces, rings.. so my grandma took all my stuff to keep with her which was fine with me since I don't wear jewelry unless I am able to never take it off. Two of the MOST important pieces of jewelry I had kept away (for me to look at and not wear) are my solid gold charm bracelet my grandma put together for me over many birthdays, and a 24k large gold locket my great grandmothers bought for me with their pictures in it "so I'd remember them" and had inscribed and everything. I mentioned I'm half Italian at some point right? Ok I hope that was obvious. Anyways, so basically all the jewelry on earth really didn't matter past those two things and I was allowed to wear them for special occasions.

When I was 16 I went to Italy with my grandparents (yes I just realized it was 10 years the other night and that blew my mind) and was the last time I got to wear the braclet and locket. I actually didn't like them because they were *gasp* yellow gold! so I kept them in my room there. One day we went to visit my grandfathers aunt in one of those old people's homes .. which is a lot different than the ones here.. and she was just the most fantastic lady. I just loved her; of course it helped that she was just nuts about me and said awesome stuff like I'm as gorgeous as the sun and touched my face all the time. lol. She spent her entire life as a nun, as did her older sister who was also in the home but didn't speak anymore, and when she left there after 50 years they gave her a gold watch with her name inscribed on it. She gave it to my grandparents to give to my mother since they share the very same first and last name. Not that it has anything more to do with the story other than this woman isn't alive any longer and I just adored her, I'll add that she felt so badly about not giving me anything like she did for my mom that she gave my grandparents $200 to get me whatever I wanted on the trip and also took me to her room and told me I had to pick out something to take with me. She didn't have a lot of items in there obviously, being a nun and now being in a home, and a few years ago the figurine she let me have fell off a shelf and broke, which broke my heart, and I keep the head in my jewelry box.

SO!

I begged my grandparents not to give my mother the watch and they did anyways and yes she broke it by wearing it to do the dishes. She took it apart to "dry" and lost all the pieces somehow. That made me feel fantastic. These are just things of course and materials do not mean anything but even I was taught better than to lose something someone gave you and my mother is a gypsy as far as I'm concerned. So here is my guilty secret, at last, which would've had no meaning if confessed to you without telling you the entire story: I lost my locket.

For 2 years I have been sick over it, and there is no way in hell I can ever replace it or not let my grandmother go to her grave thinking I have it. In fact I lost the charm bracelet too, until this Christmas when I opened the packed box of ornaments and found it in there! What happened I don't know but at least one of those items back and that makes me feel a little better. I mean, when someone spends time and thousands of dollars collecting charms for you from your childhood, you try not to leave it behind when you pack!

Maybe I should put out an ad for lost and found: 1 gold locket plus chain missing, pictures of two sweet old ladies in it who are no longer living, inscribed "All Our Love, Anna Maria" .. if found please return to THIS FUCKNG IDIOT [insert picture of me]. I am even WORSE than my mother?? How did that happen!!?

Thanks for not killing me

This week the search winner is someone who googled one of my "26 things I've learned in 26 years" questions. Is dating someone 20 years older ever ok?

Honestly I am so glad I can help you realize you never want to date someone who's been eligible to vote for 3 years, driving for 5 years and drinking for at least 1 year..... when you were newly alive. If you want to put that even more into perspecive, as an infant you sat there pooping yourself and making noises and couldn't make out shapes or see anything past a few inches in front of your face. That same day the person you're screwing right now could have been passed out on his girlfriend's couch from drinking all night then drove home in the morning.

So you see why the answer is NO, no it is never ok. That horrible screaming and yelling your dear mother did to get you here? Yeah that's the same scream she will give you when you tell her you're dating someone 20 years older than yourself and who could blame her, that's just disgusting!!

In closing, don't forget it's Mama Day! It takes a special person not to kill anything that pooped all over them regularly. Think about it!

And don't forget when you leave why you came

So my buddy Andrea is leaving at the end of the month for Calgary, like I mentioned sometime before. That really, well, makes me happy for her... but I am going to miss her a bunch. We've been friends since grade 6 or 7 and have lots of experience staying in touch and not needing to hang out a whole lot to be friends.. so I'm not overly concerned. I just don't want her to miss home or anything but I should be flying out there pretty soon to see her new digs.

When she called to ask me if she was doing the right thing, and wasn't sure she could leave everyone I said: Dude (and I'm paraphrasing) I know so many people who get pushed out of their parents place.. pushed into a job and it becomes a pattern for their whole life. Deciding to start your life in a new province in as little as 2 weeks, and accomplishing that? It's a great marker for what else you can do. It's something I think about whenever I am not feeling very productive, need to get my "shit together" and it always helps me, so I hope it will help her.

That and some Ikea gift cards!

Today has been an exceptionally difficult day, which is possibly why I have been thinking about her leaving. I suppose though, at the end of it, if I didn't question my limitations at least a little bit then I would be made of nothing in the first place. Cheers to the roadblocks, then! Else I'd have no time to stop and enjoy a gin & seven at the end of a hard day. Literally, I've had 3! If we're working on a scale of 1-5 then I will definitely have to alert you when a 4 or 5 gin and seven day comes up.

Your days are short here; this is the last of your springs. And now in the serenity and quiet of this lovely place, touch the depths of truth, feel the hem of Heaven. You will go away with old, good friends. And don't forget when you leave why you came.

Sell crazy somewhere else

Search of the Week Winner: Google: as good as it gets sell crazy somewhere else

So after the car accident I kind of realized there are worse things in life than living in Hamilton. It's true! I've lived elsewhere for almost 4 years and have tried to ignore the real fact that you can relocate yourself quite fine, but relocating everyone you know is a real challenge. I used to make the weekend trips, as if I didn't actually live somewhere else, and after buying this house in Oakville I finally said OK I will be an Oakville girl, not a Hamilton girl living in Oakville. And it's fucking nice out here, but it's really nice for retiring maybe instead. We could weekend it here instead, all the cool shopping I love, the strawberry picking and crazy starbucks everywhere. Let's be honest here, I was born in Hamilton: where people look at you strange if you make eye contact, where saying "good morning" as if you know someone would get you beat up for being "sarcastic", where most of the neighbours dropping by were ones your mother told you never to talk to, or literally dropping from the balcony upstairs because they drank too much at a party. I'm as friendly as they come, but even I was looking for the candid cameras... is nobody in the town having a bad day? ever?

Still, I could live in Oakville my whole life and not mind. It'd be honestly entertaining anywhere I'd potentially live, but my family is Hamilton and will basically never leave. Sean brought up this moving to Hamilton idea this week, ironically....but I think it's just really obvious my grandfather is going to die in a few years. While that is hard for me, I suppose I should prepare for it and maybe buy a nice big house rather than this extremely expensive small one, full of pretty stainless steel and granite, that is miles and miles away. I've started looking and this Sunday we go see a huge victorian house right by my parents (but on a nice street.. not a crack street. yes it's almost like black and white checker streets in Hamilton.. crack, nice, crack, nice, crack, nice. truth be told 50% of Hamilton is fantastic, but you'd never know it). If we like it, great, maybe we will move. I'd love to have some huge problem with where I am now, so I have this gigantic reason, the only one being it's not where my family is at and overall... I guess that makes me less happy. Or more like, I don't have a great reason to stay in Oakville other than it's a nice place to live. I'm sure Sean knows that, and I am lucky he'd persuade me to move us somewhere he never particularly liked. I would have honestly never brought up the idea in a million years, but it seems like he's set on this being a good thing to do. I agree... I can still do the daycare and maybe take some nice trips to Gage Park and the Children's Museum.

If I'm giving off some hesitation it's merely my own stupid idea that living out here was my choice, and I guess want to feel like it's clear I do not have to, but am choosing to move back because I will stay there aaaaaaaaaaaand not have my crazy family over every damn day! Hey what, I've gotten used to my privacy lol. You know, being close to your family is great but we are still talking about MY family!

Wait a minute... I forgot the police here are totally bored assholes! OK nevermind, get me the fuck out of Oakville.

This is an Ex-Parrot

Number 1 on the 50 greatest sketches of all time is "Dead Parrot" by Monty Python. My dad is a huge Monty Python fan yet somehow I had not seen this before. 39 years later I'm not sure if I will still be laughing at Dick in a Box, however this is clearly still hilarious. John Cleese is probably the only British comedian I actually find funny.. can't wait for the Pink Panther 2 next year. Maybe I'll take my dad.

Is Internet Graffiti a Crime?

I recommend Facebook wall Graffiti tag as a fun way to get over any sort of traumatic event. If done correctly, you can be laughing about it now instead of thinking "I know this will be funny some day..." and then waiting for that day to get there! Of course I had to share this.

Andrea Drew:

I Drew Back:

LOL. You have no idea what that's about but trust me, based on their creative awesomeness I had no choice but to post these gems. I mean, I could have made those "Chola" eyebrows better but whatever.. still funny! I got into the mood to listen to music again which led me to finding a band called Spoon. "I Turn my Camera On" is a pretty good tune. I guess there's nothing else to say at the moment...

Appropriately ridiculous

Search Winner: Google: does anyone can tell me why my head gets too hot sometimes

Judging from the wording of that question, I'm diagnosing you with a massive brain tumor. Not the kind that kills you though, it just makes you really stupid by overheating your brain when you try to think really hard. For example, don't try to figure out how much to tip your waitress on your own. I believe the technical medical term I just invented for it is a "stupa-tumor" and it can be treated by wearing ice-hats (not the be confused with ice-holes; a word my grandma invented via her Italian accent to insult me).

Andrea and I went out to get some dessert last night and I ended up telling her all about the events as of Tuesday. It took about an hour and was almost a relief to get to laugh about it with someone. She interrupted me about 10 times to declare "You know I can't even believe you seem completely fine right now!" and I replied very honestly "I'm telling you this story while drinking a fishbowl full of alcohol and eating hot brownies with ice cream... right now I'm FINE!" I also decided via fishbowl is the only way to properly drink alcohol from now on. So appropriate in it's ridiculousness... I'm telling you, I only had two, and that was quite enough.

Today I got some pills for my back until my next appointment so although I don't know how bad my injuries are, that is still awesome news as far as I'm concerned.

I had a bad day.

I had no idea I could appreciate the people I love very much, even more. Now I do.

How was your weekend, baby?

Search Winner: Google: why do men use the phrase baby when they talk to a women?

My Answer: Because if you respond to it once, they never have to learn your real name. Smart idea if you ask me!

It's been a terrific weekend, we had great weather so I got some sunburn practice. Spent a day at the farm, ate crazy-delicious buttermilk pancakes, got into some Rockband and beers.. even did a little kiddo shopping (my favourite).

Had some before weekend fun too when Brooke came over, bearing gifts and a bartender hat, and invented a new martini! I can't tell you the secret recipe but it was so damn good it needed to have the name "the EASYtini" .. too easy to drink, and we did.

I had a new revelation by the way, which is if I keep being Pizza Depot's #1 fan I'm not only going to keep this new 5lbs, but I'm single handedly helping the owner remodel his house. He just got these fancy-ass new doors on his half a million dollar digs and here I am promoting the hell out of it for nothing, not even a free pizza a month! How do I know this? Because he's my neighbor and as per my pictorial Flickr evidence, when you drive a car with a giant pizza on it everyone knows where you are at all times. He also just bought one of those KFC-style fans whose only job is just to blow food smells all over the neighborhood. I swear to god it wasn't there before. What's worse is they just started making these new deep-fried brownies too and it's taking all my willpower not to hire a sky writer to let everyone know about it!

It will just take a minute

I like to think of myself as a sort of street-justice vigilante from time to time. I don't know where I got the notion so deeply in my head that things have to be fair all the time, but it's definitely an idea that isn't going anywhere soon. Wherever there is injustice I feel the need to right any wrongs, no-matter how insignificant they may be! And street-justice on the internet, let's face it, it can't get more insignificant. Perfect example:

I am helping my buddy Andrea look for free furniture and stuff on craigslist out in Calgary since she wants to move there. Naturally I go back to my city to check out of someone has potted plants I like or whatever crap, because I dig window-shopping so much I'll even do it with things already in other people's houses. So I come across this ad... selling a Window Style Framed Mirror with Shutters for $125. Advertised as a unique piece that really needs to be seen! I agree it needs to be seen, in my livingroom, because I fucking have one; it's called the India Mirror and I bought it at JYSK for 79.99!!!!!

What a great idea, I should go buy some shit from Home Sense and sell it as Indiana Jones' personal items from his trip to the Sahara Desert. It comes with a stamp that says "Made in China" and ... a CURSE! When you look into the mirror, your exact reflection looks back at you!
Obviously I am going to write an ad to let people know where they can buy this really unique item for a lot less money... ya, I'm one of THOSE people. Not the person who has to constantly "speak up" at every possible occasion like in the grocery store, or if someone cuts me off or anything like that. It's more stuff like this that someone has to be out of their goddamn mind to try and get away with, uhh like selling shards of glass that cures aids, or picking on someone in a coma. That stuff honestly bothers me! I guess if I really wanted to make a difference I could always fashion myself a cape with a big IN for INJUSTICE and walk around town listening to other people's conversations. That might be cool for a while. The bummer would be my Hero catchphrase wouldn't be awesome like "Look out, Radioactive Man!" but more like..

"Wait, I hear someone is being stupid somewhere...
Hold my coffee, I'll be back in a minute"

Edit: just got an email thanking me for responding to the ad

"Thank you for that. I hate it when people are trying to take advantage, as obviously you do. We have to stand up for ourselves - so good for you!!"

Yep, It Be Broken

Search of the Week Winner: Google: tiny zoolander phone

Since typing that original post about Sean buying me my own zoolander phone, I have been waiting to use that picture and now the day is finally upon us. I am so happy right now.

The only thing currently bothering me is after trying to win a game of kick-me-harder with a stair, aka one kick, I am still dealing with that loss. And no, the stair does not care how awesome I am. I checked. So I did that Thursday and now I remember why I do not kick things; I'm rotten at it! My toe is sprained, I can't walk properly, and after three days it looks like this. Great opportunity to test out the macro setting on my camera though... sorry about the ugliness!

While we're talking about my toe, I'd like to throw a nonsensical argument out there. It's a running joke in this house that Super Under-Reaction Sean (aka Dr. Google) is world famous for initially looking at every injury/physical emergency situation as though you might as well have spilled milk on yourself. If he doesn't see a bunch of blood spurting out of you, or a car on top of you, you be FINE! Haha. Of course, everyone has their own way to go about things, but I just find that amusing. Naturally when I hurt myself all I had to say was how my toe is broken and he of course jumped at correcting me that my toe is merely "sprained"... I should walk it off. It IS sprained, not broken, no but that made me think of the context of injuring yourself. So here's the debate as I see it, based on my logic (and amicable disagreements) I say any injury you have that limits your function of the affected area can be declared BROKEN. As in the context of, it ain't workin' no more Doc.

Example: I smash a light-bulb, it's broken. The light-bulb burns out, it's still broken. Therefore I don't need to shatter my bones for me to have broken my toe, it still doesn't work correctly. Did I convince someone? Boy I hope so.

It's alright because sometimes the world always gives you something nice to balance that stuff out... namely, STARBUCKS IS NOW MAKING DONUTS?????!!!!! What the freak? A pic of that is also on my Flickr. I literally walked in there right after I murdered my toe to get some Vanilla Scones and saw them and, like some jealous lover, demanded to know "When did you get THESE?? Oh, since TUESDAY???? That's real nice and WHERE WAS I? Were you just never going to tell me about it?" but of course I was too happy to scold anyone for not calling me personally when they arrived. I just bought two and hobbled away in delight. Boy am I extra glad about my Starbucks birthday gift cards!

Unrelated totally... for anyone using mac (and reading my site, right) you will appreciate knowing about a program called Acquisition 2. It's really geared towards users making a small payment to use Pro but I cannot see how any sane person would complain about that.

Summing things up is what I do best

Perhaps you are wondering why there are no pictures in yet of my 26th birthday, and it is because my insane new indestructible camera has far too many options on it + I clearly was drinking so that = pretty shitty pics! I have to fix most of the low light ones or else you can barely see anything. However, if you're interested, I'll give you a glimpse into exactly what it's like to be me with the use of only two photos taken on that weekend.

The sum of my entire life up to this point: Those who spell my name right, and those who spell it wrong on a delicious cheesecake.

Oh and venetian cannoli, just because! My life is also crush orange soda in a wine glass at my grandma's house. Yep.. all pieces of the puzzle, my friends.

I'd really love to speak to any jerk who spells Ann with an e, because somehow that is now the default way to spell it?! Whoever you are, thanks for making me someone who HATES repeating myself! No e! No e! Nooooo e! If you think Ann with an e makes perfect sense, here's a few words for you I just made up that make as much sense TO ME. Lambe. Sande. Flage. Strawbettry Jame.

I feel I should mention at this point, since it comes up, if you're someone who thinks this has been valuable info and I'd be really bothered if you spelled my name improperly on purpose; oh how hilarious it would be to really "get under my skin about it" .. well, you're out of luck. Look at those two pics again, think of how old I am, picture every occasion you have to give someone your name, times that by two since I need to repeat myself (and explain what a hyphen is to some people) and then you can fully appreciate that by now I have separated the universe into two parts: those why spell it right, and those who have been hit by lightening. You can't be upset at anyone for that! I mean, they're barely human beings anymore.

Oh and before I forget, I almost want to start a new blog called "Overheard at the Park" just based on this from yesterday.

Group of five 8-10yr old boys, one starts explaining a game to the others.
"ok so you're going to be your own colony, and we're going to be another colony"
"alright"
"we'll have to battle it out at this park for victory and survival!"
"uh..."
"ok so what's your colony going to be called? mine is colony Tenderness"

Room for food

It's official! I have victoriously drank my way to ONE bottle of wine left (and maybe a 10th of raspberry Stoli) in my fridge. The pressure is off, I can finally fit food in there again. Thank goodness, too, my skin is green and I've lost 80% mobility.

Not really.. gosh.

So I'm really writing to mention this huge freak of nature that's just occured.. and I feel like I need to warn someone. I have never in all my 26 years and 7 days, witnessed a phenomenon quite like 2 consecutive and randomly picked movie choices that have sucked so much I will call them serious contenders for the #1 and #2 spots for worst movies of all time.

Years ago me and a friend had watched what we both thought was the worst movie ever. I issued a challenge that we cannot argue ours was worse until we both watch the other's BAD MOVIE choice to really pick a winner. The result was, as you can guess, nobody won.. they were equally as bad and we voluntarily sat through it like idiots. I mean, I've seen my share of terrible movies ok, mostly they're so hilariously BAD I don't really mind! In fact, if I had a piece of coal in my hand throughout the many hours of watching absolute garbage.. that's right.. I'd have a 120 carat diamond. It's almost a certainty that if you end up watching a movie you would consider one of the WORST movies of ALL TIME... lightening would not strike you again the next day! Until Flogging Margaret and ..omg.. I've blocked it out.. what is it called? The Tripper.

Please, please, please do not rent these, view them for free.. or even pay attention for a few mins while waiting in line at Blockbuster. I know people exaggerate all the time but when I am literally on my death bed and people say (hopefully)

"Wow Ann-Marie you've had such a full life, you must have nothing at all you regret doing.. even for say, an hour and 10-20 mins."
I will say "Flogging... Margaret!" and then instantly die.

For dramatic purposes let's just assume I can will myself to do that. Let's also go ahead and say the person who is so upbeat whilst I'm in my deathbed is probably the sort of person that would relish any chance they can get to use the phrase "When we ASSUME, it makes an ASS out of U and ME"
Oh and the first two movies mentioned that you should never watch: Welcome to Doll House & The Mosquito <-- also voted most hilarious movie of all time, unintentionally of course.

YES!

Does anyone remember RobotMan?

Description: Plush Dolls based off the cartoon. Robot man was yellow and red, with a red propeller on his head and red sunglass things. Robot Girl was pink and white with pink sunglasses and a pink propeller. They both had a heart on their tummy that you could open up to see what was inside, and when you pressed it, it would play the robot man theme song from the cartoon.
Thank you, inthe80s.com! I got some random thought in my head today about it and I just had to make sure I didn't imagine him. If it weren't for websites like that it would just be me googling "Love Bot" and "Robot with the Heart" "Plush 80s robot heart" ?? By the way Love Bot is real I found out and NOT to be played with by children!

Man, I really loved RobotMan and the robot girl too.. and again, just like Hot Potato, I was not allowed to play with it for more than 8 friggin seconds. Because of sharing, goddamn it. If I wasn't such a nice person I would have had so many Robot adventures! You know what life lesson I learned from sharing? It sucks. I don't recommend it. And you know, I had a LOT of toys being an only child so clearly we see where this is really coming from.. but anyway!

I Bloody Heart Dexter

My dad told me to start watching the show, and upon finishing season 1 tonight I have to admit yeah I like Dexter. At first it was pretty weird and not at all an analogy to the Lost freak-out of 06' but one of those build-a-bear grow to love it shows or whatever. Is he creepy, is he cute? yes! And as many female and male stereotypy's there are dancing around in the show.. Dexter is who you're watching it for. He really doesn't disappoint you.

It's the one likeable character in literature (television-ature) that if I find myself relating too much to, I'd have to put some sort of therapist on my speed-dial. Great show, guys, start watching!

And while I'm on the whole subject of kinda strange... my dear friend Andrea, on a crazy trip to Calgary, had called me and discovered this morning a guy who owns a t-shirt that says "Fake titties taste weird" ... without saying too much about the details here I'd like to pose the question: when is it OK to stop owning shirts like that? I'd honestly LOVE to know.

Friday, April 4

Yeah that was my favourite part too

Whatever you do, don't let anyone tell you that working with kids isn't a lot of fun. Sure it might be one long patience test (even when you pass, it still counts as a fail) but then they do stuff like this... and suddenly life is spectacular again.

I let one of the girls go on my computer yesterday to play games on the TvoKids website. Great website by the way. She had me type in book and author for her, and insisted that was who wrote it. The last bit well, I told her to try and spell it herself just like it sounded. Yeah um I had to take a screen cap:

I think the author section went red since I believe he's a level 90 on the child predator screening list. I hope no one shows up here asking me questions about it. And just an FYI I walked out of the room to go laugh, I'm not a monster.. she's only 4, that's not bad!

So I realize I didn't do a search of the week last Friday and this week is pretty dry. I only got one hit from the phrase Taiwan Wh*re. <-- I rather not up my chances at some more. Nice right? Just one, damn!! And this week I got a few boring ones for my entire web address in google? Therefore I have no choice but to name this week's winner a single great line from a song I like.

SOTW Winner: "You've been waiting to break since you woke up this morning"

And for your listening pleasure.

Thursday, April 3

Make your own popcorn

I watched "p.s. I Love You" last night and you know, it was pretty good. At least 60 times better than I thought, and, if you ignore Hilary Swank's horse teeth it's really such an enjoyable story. I found myself near tears (but I managed to save them, for once!) and grinning like a jackass at all the right parts.

What's with Irish men that make us women go absolutely crazy?

Hey, I'm just saying!

Oh and does anyone else wonder where this week went, or is it just me? I planned on changing my goldfish's water and suddenly it's Thursday and Oscar is probably sucking his own fish crap because of me.

As good as 26 gets

I have to say, technically, I have probably never had a better birthday than 26. It included so many of my favourite things. Early on I dubbed it the birthday of no surprises, since I ordered my own cake, and wasn't just told what I was getting but I actually bought one of my presents since the store was closer to me. lol. But then why do I need to be surprised anyway, it's all the same at the end of the day!

An entire 3 days of birthday celebrating this year equalled out to:

Saturday bedroom. Saturday movie. Saturday PARTY.
- Bedroom is awesome, I am so happy with it. Sean and Rob worked so hard and I was just so excited to get to sleep in it that night. Even more excited than seeing a license plate that said "DZ Nuts"
- Movie was great, only I didn't think that by choosing to see Stop-Loss I would be such a Debbie Downer right before the party. Like wow, 2 hours of screaming, let's go drink! Right before I get married I should just make all my guests watch Shindlers List with 3D glasses and make sure everyone "keeps their eye on the girl in the red jacket.. you'll see her later!"
- Party was awesome.. I have so much alcohol in my fridge I'm not sure how I am going to get actual food in it for a while. That makes my party at least month-long.. so if some of my April posts don't make sense you'll know why ahead of time. We played totally 80s, Wes won somehow... damn sports questions! and I wandered around giving tours of my house with the Birthday Pimp Chalice. Great tradition, you can fit 2 cups of anything in there.
- Had a Boston Cream cake and Pizza Depot with my champagne. There is nothing wrong with any part of that sentence.

Sunday dinner.
- My grandma made all my favourite stuff. Lasagna homemade that I actually liked, Bacon wrapped quails, Roasted Thyme potatoes, broccoli and cheese, some crazy asparagus salad and yum cherry tomatoes. Plain cheesecake with strawberries birthday cake and home made venetian cannoli's. I ate it all, for once. So good.

Monday Rainy Birthday.
- Relaxed, drank wine and watched a movie at home while eating the rest of my cannoli's. Sean made dinner and did all the clean up around the house so that was really sweet. One of the mom's at work gave me a Starbucks gift card too, which was a really nice surprise, along with Rob's giant $50 card he gave me.. I have enough to keep me caffeinated with style for months! Hell I can even afford their coffee maker!
- Had a great conversation with one of the kids:
"My brain really wants me to say a bad word right now. Ha ha."
"Oh no, why would your brain do that?"
"I don't know!"
"I guess your brain wants to get you in trouble!"
*Looks up* "No brain, no! I don't want to get in trouble for saying a bad word!"

The rest of my gifts were just great, Sean and my Dad went in on a break-proof camera for me from Olympus. It actually tells you in the manual that the only way you can break it is if some dirt or sand gets in the lens and to fix it you must immerse it in water and turn the power on and off repeatedly. I cannot tell you how crazy this thing is but that's exactly the camera I need.. one where the commercial has a guy dropping it from the eiffel tower or something. Brooke got me a bouquet of strawberries and bananas in chocolate from Edible Arrangements. Man that was so good, the strawberries were the size of my fist! Andrea got me an awesome frame, lingerie gift card and Advil (which I totally used), baseball tickets from Wes, my favourite chocolates and lots of alcohol (mmm mojitos) from my cousins and some money from my grandparents to help ease the pain of being old I guess, and paying for things lol.

I did end up being surprised though in the long run with so many favourite things, birthday wishes and cards from all the most important people taking some time out for me. That was awesome so thanks everybody :) I cannot see how I would have had a better weekend.

Friday, March 28

This is it

I declare there shall be no updating on my birthday (Monday) so this is it. I'm really looking forward to all the festivities tomorrow and just having a really great time with friends, Wes' infamous Leno impersonation, and being part of another epic Facebook legend. lol. Oh and sleeping in my new room of course. I am really looking forward to that!

Ann+Marie

all i'll really be doing is cleaning to make other people think i am not messy
haha
and possibly getting alcohol if i didn't buy it already

Robert
haha well I can help with the cleaning... it probably makes sense for me to stay rather than drive back and forth

Ann+Marie
yes thats it rob, help me move a bedroom set AND help me clean.. what are you Jesus??

Robert
if i was jesus you wouldn't need to buy alcohol

26 Things I've Learned in 26 Years - not one of them is "laugh more"

Recently I had stumbled on this list someone made about 26 things they've learned in 26 years. I figure hey, my birthday is in 4 days (really???) so I might want to read this. Conclusion: I really hated the list; it absolutely sucked, and nothing sucks more than when you read something expecting to like it and then you don't. Such promise destroyed by list items like "take more walks" "always tell the truth" or "laugh more" ... or at least that's what I think they were, I was too busy making a WTF-Face.

I googled to find the list again for a reference and instead I found about a million 26 things lists. What is it about this year that makes everyone write a bunch of lists?? I read a much different themed list that said 26 things that suck about turning 26. That list was just as terrible, and made way too many allusions to being called a pedophile, and how there are a bunch of hot little Lolita's out there who all think you're 'old'. Also that turning 26 means you're at least 33% dead. For some unknown reason I read a third list that was both ridiculous and ambiguous. You know, Nerds are the best ice cream topping.. etc.. also "laugh" and "don't tell lies". Did you know, at whatever age you are currently at, lies are bad and laughing is fun? Oh, you do? Ok well that guy just wasted 25 years figuring it out then!

Naturally you KNOW I have to make another crappy list, so I have decided it will be somewhat practical stuff that you might ask yourself in the future, or be thinking, to which I have a perfectly good answer for you.

26 Things I've Learned in 26 (25) Years!

26. What gets finger prints and streaks off your Stainless Steel appliances?
Glass cleaner and baby oil.

25. Will making my own laundry detergent save me money?
No. Depends how much Borax costs you where you live but generally making your own detergent will cost you the same, except use more packaging, damage a nice food processor, not smell as nice and do exactly as much laundry. The benefits are that it will clean your laundry way, way better.

24. I've been wanting to dye my hair blonde, should I?
Probably not. As someone who does that from time to time, if you don't already have fairly light hair you really have no business being blonde. Cons: It will cost a lot to keep up, irritate your scalp, possibly causing you to have dryness later, might turn brassy or actually melt your hair if you try and fix it, and lastly it doesn't really look all that healthy. Darker hair ends up looking healthy, in general. Try just lightening your hair, use lemons, whatever is least damaging.

23. My Dad (Mom) doesn't spend any time with me, or call me. Should I be sad about that? I think I should because maybe it's my fault for not being awesome.
Only if other people's failures makes you sad.. if so, go nuts with sadness. If you had a child and refused to get attatched to them, never called them or talked to them, do you think that would make you more normal or less normal? Yeah see, I wouldn't worry about it.

22. I feel terrible but secretly I think making fun of people with mental or physical disabilities is hilarious.
I hate to tell you but, secretly, it's not.. sorry. Neither is laughing at genuinely crazy people. I mean sure, laughing out of nervousness is OK if you are starting to get all afraid of them, but honestly it's just not that funny. They are people who will never have a full chance at life like you do, and families who will always struggle because of it.

21. Where are the places I shouldn't get a tattoo?
I'll tell you something my dad told me when I asked. Draw your tattoo, write down where you'd like it and what colours etc. then put it in an envelope and seal it for 1 year. When you open it, if you still love it exactly the way it is, then go ahead. Chances are you didn't get it for a person, or at a party or because someone you knew got one just like it. Those are what I like to call temporary tattoo occasions. If you must please never get one on: your feet, stomach, forearm, calf, thigh or breast. I don't really like the upper arm either, but this answer is getting long so it's up to you!

20. You know what, that's it, I'm going to crank call the White House.

You really shouldn't. Trust me.

19. What is a good idea to buy in bulk?

Dishwashing tabs, toilet paper. Not: sweaters or milk.

18. I really, really, really want to get married and have kids!

No you don't. No. You don't. You can appreciate and experience both of those things without actually doing them; ask people who are doing them and they'll tell you. If you have any problems in your life, I'd wait until you don't. If you don't have any problems in your life, get married and have kids, and then you'll have some. That one was a joke.

17. I'm really finding it hard to name my cat/dog/child.
First and last names are fun. I like to find a type of food that represents them. If I owned a Bulldog I would immediately name them Cheeseburger McPickleson. For an actual child.. nothing old like Norman and nothing spelled wrong.

16. Is it OK for me to date someone 15-20 years younger/older than me?
Are you in your 50's? No? Then no it's not ever ok.

15. I really hate paying $80 a month on my cable bill.
Write down your favourite shows, it will be less than 25% of the crap you actually find yourself watching. Cancel your cable. Rent those shows or watch Hulu.com.

14. My goldfish looks sick.. do you think it's serious?
Well, depends, I'd google whatever is specifically wrong but chances are you can get something to fix them at Petsmart. Take pictures in with you to show them and don't spend more than $8... unless you have more than one goldfish. If it has black spots on it it's either incurable or it was just sick and it's getting better now. Wait it out with a toilet flusher on stand-by.

13. What is a good silver polisher and cleaner? I have some pretty rough looking silver here.
Toothpaste. Rub it in really good.

12. How many credit cards should I own, and when should I use them?
Two. One that you use frequently with a low limit of say $500, and one that has a large, never-used limit. You should use the first one for: deposits, things that can only be bought online (not ebay), and occasionally gas. Never use them for: christmas shopping, grocery shopping, alcohol, ordering food, impulse items, buying cars or electronics. Use the second card only in life or death situations like: someone literally died and you need to fly somewhere last minute notice, paying for an emergency surgery, emergency dental work, bailing yourself or a member of your family out of jail.

11. I am making dinner tonight and I have no idea what I'm doing. None. What is one thing I could make a lot of that people like?
People like hamburgers, and home made fries. People also like sausage and pasta. If you want a nicer way to make sausage and pasta:
Take the skins off the sausage and break up the meat by hand in a frying pan. Add butter, shake some Montreal Steak Spice on it, throw half a chopped onion in there if you're using really basic canned sauce. Make the pasta obviously.. look at the package for instructions if you're lost on that. Add sauce to the pan, then add "italian spices" which means a mixture of rosemary basil and thyme all in one bottle. If you don't have those, just use basil, add some salt if you think it really needs it. Put the sauce and pasta together. Add parmesan cheese, people like cheese.

10. Look, I have zero idea what to order at Starbucks and it's pretty intimidating to be honest with you. Give me a suggestion!
Buy a coffee at McDonalds. It's really, really good.

9. I live alone and I'm over 30, what's a good pet for me?
Fish. You don't want to be the cat lady.. or snake man, do you?

8. I'm baby-sitting my niece/nephew alone for the first time, I don't want to just watch tv, what sorts of activities would be good to do for a few hours?
Depends on their age but every kid under 5, no-matter what, loves to play "shopping" How: You're the grocery store and they can pick up items (toys) to put in their bag or basket. Kids love imitating adult behavior so give them a fake debit card and fake cell phone and just watch what happens. When the baskets get full you play "supermarket switch" and dump all the items out on the floor and they become the cashier and you become the shopper. The "supermarket" stays closed for 5 mins (lights are off) to the items on the floor all cleaned up.. feel free to go grab yourself a drink. If they're a little older, play a sport together, make some funny rules to it, even a simple board game or reading stories.

7. If you were me, other than being less cute with a much duller personality, what is something you'd do if you had very little responsibilities?
Professional house-sitter. Without a doubt. Ya I have to make some of these questions fun or else I'll lose interest.

6. What is something memorable I can do with my gf/bf on our next date?
One word: consumption. Bake and eat and entire cake, have a drinking contest and watch way too much of a really bad movie. Trust me, you will not forget this date!

5. What is a really good breakfast food I haven't thought to try?
Two Cinnamon Waffles with Peanut butter on one side and Nutella on the other. Don't put any whipped cream on it.. that would be "too much". Less sweet idea? Toasted bagel with cream cheese and a tomato and lettuce. Make sure you don't forget to salt the tomato.

4. You know, I play with my hair a lot. I'm really annoyed by it and frustrated! but still I can't stop.. sometimes I do it in my sleep. I like the feeling, or sound, and I even pull little hairs out if they bother me but I don't talk about that. People try and remind me to stop, I laugh about it, but also I feel stupid like it's a ditzy habit. That's not really considered OCD is it?
I don't know, is it? Maybe not. In my case it is and no it doesn't seem bad at all until you have it explained to you... it's just a quirky habit! I only recently realized that it was something other people do when I was searching for some kind of hypnotism to make me stop (like smoking) and I've been doing it for 16-19 years. It might not be a disease, and nobody will be setting up any foundations for it, but if you wanted to stop "a silly thing like that" you would have by now so you should find a way to get someone to help you do that.

3. What is the best ice cream topping?
Oh Nerds for sure! Alright not really, it's melted Nutella on vanilla frozen yogurt. Just thought I'd throw one of these questions in here.

2. Should I buy or lease my car?
Buy, a used car, preferably 2-3 years old. You can get some sweet deals from people who bought brand new, all upgraded features in their cars and then realized they can't afford the payments after all. Buying new is telling people you like burning 2-4 grand just by driving it off the lot... and if you like that, great!

1. I think I need a reality check. Do you have one?
Yeah. Writing a list about turning 26 when people like Randy Pausch exist. I read his blog updates all the time, even though there is a 100% chance he is going to die I cannot help but hope. He reminds me sooo much of someone I have known, and makes me miss him a lot. What an awesome guy.

I guess I could have added more things to the list like "catch fireflies" and "listen to your grandma" but really the best things you learn on your own or from asking yourself any one of these type of questions. If one of those helped you I think I saved you maybe 30 seconds to 1 min. Ah my work on earth is done! Oh right and try and laugh more often, it's great!

How and when to be goo

Search of the Week!
As goo as it gets

I think that's my favourite typo ever.

My Dad and I were having a discussion a while ago about Celebrity Apprentice and I simply could not get over how much I hated Omorosa. I mean, really hate, and not even knowing her in real life or anything makes that even more disturbing. What is it about that woman I despise so much? I asked myself.

If I had to pick just a few things I think makes a person a symbol for everything wrong I see in the world it would be a combination of illegitimized self-importance, sub-par integrity and unprofessional emotional 'personal story' outbursts. I can't stand all three, and I haven't even mentioned being rude or anything. I don't enjoy that either but let's face it, anyone can be rude! Since you people don't read my site for nothing, though it seems that way most times doesn't it? I will share a totally hypothetical story we will call "When things are just goo for one person, it isn't goo for everybody" ... and if you think I'm unnecessarily getting myself in any hot water, I appreciate it, but I'm only going to remind you what kind of site this is and that you read it for just this exact reason. I make my own rules, there are volumes and volumes of potential material which I don't write about, so if blogging on the SCARY subject of what happens at work still frightens you then I'd stop reading now. It's all entertainment, people; all of it. Let's continue.

Once upon a time...
So I run a private daycare, I love doing it, I love the kids, I have a great relationship with parents. The first child I took back in September we'll call Child A (the one who kept telling me she was high.. I'll miss that) and her mother we'll refer to as, oh I dunno, Mother F. lol. Now since things were pretty new, I disclosed that fact to Mother F, and said that in the future there would be a lot of changes but in the meantime we can make room for Child A. Our agreement was for a certain rate per day, Child A would attend every day. This only happened maybe 3 times in 7 months, since Mother F quit or was fired from her new job and stopped working regularly. That meant Child A was now inconsistent and it was becoming a problem to run a regular routien. Amplifying the problem is the fact that there were a long list of demands from Mother F regarding care during this time that did not change at my end, though she changed hers. Some possible examples might be:

  • no tv whatsoever, even if other children want to watch 5-10mins of a show during snacks
  • special diet of food from home, causing sharing issues with te rest of the kids, as well as Child A repeatedly asking for food that wasn't hers
  • toys from home, special damn bowls from home, things that had to be washed everyday and never shared with other kids
  • give homeopathic remedies, without written consent this is a liability, and I also needed an emergency medical form signed that it is OK to call 911 etc in case of an emergency
  • no formal contract
  • weekly tax receipts
  • food preparation demands including: never using a microwave, cutting and peeling things a "certain way" (even peeling skins of individually sliced cucumbers) and cooking a single burrito in an oven for 1 hour.
  • going along with Child A when she decided to stop napping, which is basically the only break time, and have her either mutter to herself creepily or pass out and pee on something
  • wanted pick up and drops offs of Child A to be generally "whenever" which isn't great for the kids schedules, and planning activities, and started needing me to charge only half-days even! It was almost pay per hourly at this point.

Other extras that amplified the problem of not attending regularly... Child A had actually not just been afraid but literally pee'd herself when she saw anyone male. She might even bawl her eyes out if she heard strange voices, male or female or both, (who were laughing with other kids) and absolutely always stiffened up around any man and asked to be carried even if they stayed completely clear of Child A. Also ice and garbage trucks were fairly scary too. We couldn't do anything if it was garbage day! And the best for last, of course, Mother F was an emotional basket case. She would cry and hug me and snap at me pretty consistently, like the stains the "hour in the oven burrito" left on clothes but that she insisted on bringing anyway, which was nothing in comparison when I heard how she spoke to her husband in front of me. Although things started out as merely trying to do something nice for someone (and gain experience while working out the details later) and giving it a LOT of time to pan out.. I had been communicating back that this was no longer a fair agreement for everyone involved.

Agreements like these work flawlessly and respectfully only when the terms are clearly laid out in contracts, to protect both parties, and in so much detail it's impossible to misunderstand. I hated that formality until now, but in the meantime I did try and fix things. It was a magnificent failure, and I lost my voice for a few hours because of it. I had a meeting with her for an hour and a half, non-stop talking, listening to pure opinion and nonsense as well as personal stories about their lives that I did not need to know to come to any agreement. Realizing temporary failure, we made a temporary handshake agreement to bring Child A no less than 2 times a week. Yes, people with integrity do still make handshake agreements... unfortunately people without integrity break them, and that of course inevitably happened. Mother F got sick and did not even call me for a week and a half. I dunno about you, but if my job didn't contact me for that length of time I wouldn't still consider that I had a job to go back to! So the failure of trying to speak with her in person previously gave me no choice but to address everything written in email .. yanno, stop using this as a cheap baby-sitting service etc. Not a big deal, not personal... please dear God don't make this personal. lol.

Hilariously though the response was an email ranting on about how I, personally of course, am unprofessional for not rushing to the phone after the weeks of no contact with me! lol.. but wasting over an hour talking in person would be totally professional. Maybe I should really take a business course on time management, hmm. Also professional? calling me obsessively, 5 times in the span of 10am-2pm on a working day. When you work around children you find about zero time to speak with anyone unless at a sheduled time or very quickly, and basket cases even less than that. Yes, less than zero, where you actually wish you could go back in time and not speak with them on previous occasions. lol. From the details about Mother F we can just assume what her reaction was, but even I didn't expect something so amature as what it ended up being: paying a weekly rate just like everyone else = extortion and manipulitive games! I "had another thing coming" if I thought people would agree to what they already have been when they find good childcare, especially happy to do so when all of their needs are met 100%. I mean let's be clear, she had absolutely zero issues with bringing her kid here and even gave an unsolicited reference for using the daycare to another potential parent just weeks before. Really forever assuring me I did exactly the right thing; she can pay the (absolute) minimum to someone else and be their headache instead.

The End.

Man, wasn't that a great hypothetical story?! If any of those events actually happened or any of those people existed, aside from me who does clearly exist, that would be pretty unbelievable.

To be honest when I come in contact with a control freak like Mother F and people like her, as strong as my impulse is to mess up their hair, I am ultimately disarmed by the pity I feel for their life choices. That must be such a massive amount of energy they have to put out just to function.. to maintain how important they think they are.. and to have everything in your life be a wreck because of another person you could not 'manage' - all I want to really do is ask

"Have you ever considered how often things seem to just happen to you?"

Just a question. Don't worry, this entry is never going to mysteriously disappear for anyone so feel free to come back and read it again. Also, Happy Easter everyone! :)

Saturday, March 15

Damn, girl.

Search of the Week!
difference between an icepresso and a chillatte

See, it is not just me who wants to know! If I remember correctly it's either the amount of ice chunks or the level of milk. Or the answer is NONE, NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER!

So recently we've decided to stop using Starbucks as much in the interest of saving some money. Yep, screw you delicious $5 coffee! Turns out you and your double chocolate cookies there make me feel nice but you actually are overpriced! I make perfectly good coffee at home so I came to the conclusion I should just make them more fancy. I'm going to buy some flavour shots and get Andrea over here to help me since she used to work at Starbucks. Hell, my neighbour works at the Starbucks on my corner, I can have two professionals here in no time to fancy my stuff up. See.. it will all be OK. I cannot afford to be a regular at Starbucks and Pizza Depot... just one evil addiction at a time!

Unlike many people who didn't know it at the time, I was totally aware that life was damn easy back when my High School cafeteria had 25 cent cookies and $1.75 grilled cheese. I'd grab two fresh from the oven double chocolate cookies, a milk and a grilled cheese and still have change left from my $5. Is it any wonder I bought the same thing every day? What else could you possibly want!? Now (both Sean and I) have an $11 a day* coffee and cookie habit, and $15 pizza (plus tip) habit at least once a week. That's almost $400!!! Damn, girl.

* Ok it's not really everyday but it would be if it were up to me.

Anyhow, off the topic of coffee. 16 days until my birthday :) Last night I dreamt of my friend Rosie who has her birthday a day before mine (March 30th) and we chatted about that, I think we both got married but she was before me so I went to get some food with another friend at this restaurant called Billionaire, and there was a Tiger sitting at the elevator. You know, all regular stuff. I liked the restaurant in my dream though.. you could buy stuff from it that you saw around the place. Kinda like the crystal store in The Alchemist that served tea, or in real life, an actual restaurant we went to in Italy that sold jugs. My grandma has one in her kitchen now. For fun I googled to see if there was a real restaurant like that and there was! The Billionaire Restaurant and Club in Sardinia, Italy. I'm going to have to cut out Starbucks for a long time to afford to go there! Damn though if it doesn't look like the most awesome restaurant I have never been to.

26

Over the snowstorm break I had little to do so eventually I picked up and read a book I'd been given to read from my Dad quite a while ago. Dad: yes I just got to it now! For everyone who has already read The Alchemist, you'll know it was an inauspicious choice since my 26th birthday is in 18 days. For the 8 people on earth who haven't read it: it's about the universe showing you opportunities everywhere you look and conspiring to help you realize your purpose in life, nomatter how old or young you are. That purpose can be anything, but it is yours alone to realize and have the courage and faith to stay the course rather than expect rewards. The message: you are special and the greatest tragedy of life being that you ignore your dreams, and wants, and convince yourself you would never accomplish them. As silly as it is, thinking about that honestly helped shift my focus off the impending doom of no longer being 25.

Yes, Doom! Worse than last year?!! Frankly that would be dangerous, since I got so blind drunk I ended up doing the Batusi.

And then answered the question "how do you like being 25 so far?" by doing my best impersonation of Molly Shannon's somewhat slurry character Ann Miller in "Leg Up" saying I love it! I love it a lot!

Oddly enough in that clip they were also doing the Batusi. See there are no coincidences in life... the universe is conspiring to help me easily explain how dreading your own birthday is STUPID! Haha. Anyways, as you can see I can't afford doom again, and it so happens that as far as my calculations go I don't see anything terrible about it! let's review.

Me = Awesome
Days I was Born on = Awesome
Days I wasn't born on = Not as great
Partying with my friends = Awesome
Cake and champagne = Can't get better
Special treatment via presents = Pretty sweet!

What is there to be so unenthusiastic about.. uh I'd say nothing. If you're anything like me, as immature as we know we always will be, there is a habit (maybe I have a habit?) to take adulthood a little too seriously. You know, like picking out the right school or your first important interview. Just as stepping on a scale everyday does nothing for your 'new diet'.. we keep checking by 25 are we doing ok? By 26 are we doing about a years worth better? etc. ad nauseum. Until I just don't enjoy my own birthday anymore! I was reminded of a quote from another book... because nobody hates people who quote The Alchemist as much as me, I might as well quote another book.

"The pains of age remind us of the wisdom we have won through our trials."
Kate Elliott, King's Dragon

I have had a great year and even so, birthdays are not a final exam of life just as New Years is not a fresh start. There, pressure averted, time to have fun! This year: VIP Silvercity Movie (has a bar and bowling alley) then Cake and Champagne at my house later.. maybe some Totally 80s! If I somehow forgot to invite you on facebook just email me.
